Austin Family Trip – Aug 08

This past weekend we got an offer from our friend Julie to head to Austin and hang out with her and Diego while he finished up some classes he was taking at UT. Christy, Julie and Luke headed out on Thursday to meet up with Robie and Jonathan for a little hangout time with old friends.  I took most of Friday off and headed out to meet up with them and start our little siteseeing tour.

We go to Austin fairly regularly, but usually it is without Luke and involves music of some sort. This time around we wanted to see more of the city so we started by heading over to El Arroyo for a late lunch. I love this place. It’s down on the end of 5th in a somewhat out of the way location. The food is great and the queso is very very tasty although I think despite that great food, Luke’s favorite part was the lion statue out front. Figures.

From there we headed over to check in to our hotel and have a little relaxation and lots and lots of swimming! They have a great pool and Luke is really learning how to swim well without any help… although I do still make him wear his floaties when I toss him into the water… I mean he is still 4.

That evening we went back out on the town and swung by Waterloo Records and were barely able to get out of there without spending $100. Barely. We did however, catch Luke with a pair of headphones on listening to God knows what, but he seemed to really enjoy it based on his awesome dance moves. Feeling a bit hungry we opted for a little more traditional food and went to Threadgills for some burgers, shrimp and more of trying to keep Luke in his chair. We dropped Julie off with Diego and headed back to out hotel to get some sleep for another busy day.

We woke up nice and slow and got a little breakfast before heading to the captial to check out all the statues, memorials and beautiful grounds with Deigo and Julie. Spending a couple hours there was a bit much in the heat so we all piled into a car and went to see some old friends that recently moved over to Austin. They have a handsome 1 month old little boy, named Ethan, that was great to finally meet! All of us have know each other for about 8 years so it was nice to see them again and have a little lunch at Phil’s Hamburgers off Burnet.

It was a great trip spent with some of our best friends. Everytime we visit Austin we can’t quit talking about how we’d like to move there. But getting us to commit is the hard part!

Looks like y’all had a great time in the ATX! I love to hear the idea of your family throwing around the idea of making the move. Even if it is just talk for now, I have a feeling it will be a reality soon enough…and I can’t wait! How’d you like Phil’s? Cool place, huh?
